A WILD DRUMMER APPEARED
A WILD DRUMMER APPEARED

Ladies and gentlemen, we've got him... Again... But this time it's for real! Wild Drummer was caught!

We reviewed the videos but the beers we said we'd have turned out to be coffee and the 'heated arguments' were actually quite peaceful and forgiving...

Without further ado, feast your eyes and ears on this piece of video to find out who our new drummer is:

New, unreleased live material!
June 6, 2016

New, unreleased live material!

We told you about Marvin's graduation in January, right? (8,5 out of 10)

Well today were releasing four (4!) songs from that faithful night, recorded by Maarten J Boer and Gertjan Spieker. Thanks (again) a lot to Koen Wijnen of Shoulders of Giants for helping us out on the drums!

Speaking of which;
Listen carefully, because you may hear some of these songs at Koen Wijnen's graduation on the 22nd of June. You wash our backs, we'll wash yours, buddy! Listen carefully and learn them lines, we expect all of you to sing along...!

Let's kickoff with the most mellow track and build it up from there? Sounds good?

Change? Yes, we can!

Change? Yes, we can!

Hello world!

As most of you probably know we're currently without a drummer. And we'd like to change that. And for that to happen, we need you!

Are you interested in filling the vacancy? Hit us up! Here's what we'd like to see:

  • A short resumé of what you've done (musically, of course!);
  • Your influences: the drummers you look up to, the music that makes you tick;
  • Videos of you drumming! In a live situation would be best, but anything goes. Carto-Covers are welcome!;
  • A short but solid write-up of why you think we should consider you as our drummer, how you feel about our band and music and what you'd be able to bring to the table to help us move along;
  • Anything else you feel to be relevant

What we can offer you:

  • 4 high-functioning sociopaths to converse and make music with;
  • Funny images, foul language, and uncomfortable humour focussed in a WhatsApp-group for your convenience;
  • Manhugs;

Send us your stuff in a message on Facebook or e-mail us at info@cartographer.nl *before* the 1st of April. We'll be sure to get back you!

To all of you non-drummers out there, you can still help us out tremendously by sharing this message through Facebook!

Thanks in advance, and we're looking forward to hear from you!

All the best,
Cartographer

'CIRCLES' Graduation Show
November 30, 2015

'CIRCLES' Graduation Show

Gütentag freunden,

It’s time for some good news on this rainy November day! We’ve been working on a couple of things since Bart decided to leave the band and we are now ready to tell you about one of these things: Marvin's graduation in January.

Marvin has been actively working on an entirely new concept for this and he's come up with a full set of completely new and exclusive songs. 'CIRCLES' is an instrumental story about the world and it’s 'play-like' leadership, economics and forced human thinking patterns. The songs will sound like a fresh combination of our older, heavier work, mixed with some of the dreamy and lush soundscapes featured on 'A SEA OF SUNSHINE'. We have found drummer Koen Wijnen (Shoulders of Giants) to help us in shaping this concept into a solid live set. Huge thanks to you, Koen!

You have two chances to see 'CIRCLES' performed live:
On the 15th of January we will play a try-out show with our friends Magma Waves at the Djäzz Jazzkeller in Duisburg, Germany, followed by the graduation showcase on the 28th of January in Hall of Fame, Tilburg. We're happy to announce that our friends from Infinite Mind will be supporting us that night!

As there are no future plans for 'CIRCLES' (...yet), these two evenings might well be your only opportunities to catch the set live. Be there or be circular...!

(*crickets*)

Stay tuned to our Facebook-page to catch updates about both shows!

Much love,

Cartographer

Find our bearings and reset our goals

Find our bearings and reset our goals

Hello wonderful people of the world. It's been a while since we've last shared our thoughts with you all, and the reason we choose to do so now is not a pleasant one:

We are sadly announcing that our dear friend and drum-master extraordinaire Bart has chosen to leave Cartographer.

His drumming has been a driving force within Cartographer since it's very inception, and he himself a valuable and important piece in the complex clockwork better known as 'running a band'. However, some recent shifts in his personal life have unfortunately forced him towards this tough decision.

Bart, we wholeheartedly support your decision. Please rest assured that there is no bad blood here or anywhere around Camp Cartographer because of it. We would like to thank you openly for all of your hard work through the years and of course we will support any and all of your future endeavours.

Now, Bart's departure is in no way, shape or form going to affect any of the shows we have scheduled (Woolstock, Incubate festival 2015 andProgcity). We still love to be on stage with each other and reproduce the music we've composed between the five of us, so these three shows will serve as his official signing-off. We will do everything within our power to make sure we end on a high note and welcome you all to these last few shows to help us in making them something for him to remember.

After these shows, however, there will be some time required for us to regroup and reorganise. The vacancy Bart leaves behind is not an easy one to fill, as we're sure you'll understand, and we'll need some time to reemerge with a worthy new drummer.
These are no easy words to write down, but we'll have to look around us, find our bearings and reset our common goals on a new horizon.

Take care and enjoy your summer,
Cartographer

What's in store for 2015?
February 3, 2015

What's in store for 2015?

Time for an update on what's been going on in our camp.

First off, we'd like to properly congratulate our drummer Bart den Ouden. He's been working on a new method of teaching drums and has now graduated the Rock Academy. He didn't need that diploma to be a great musician, but he is now officially a certified drum teacher! Congratulations, Bart! You've made us all so proud. :)

Secondly, we've taken the liberty to add some new content to our website. We've updated our biography (check out the 'About'-page), and we've upgraded our webstore with some new, slightly-over-mediocre photo's of our albums and T-shirts. You can now see exactly what your purchased item looks like in the flesh! This is also the first time that our black T-shirt design is available online (Ladies rejoice, this one is available in women's sizes!), so don't hesitate: Head over to our Bandcamp Webstore right now by clicking 'Store' below.

Now, we've already talked about each of our highlights from 2014 on our Facebook-page, but what about our plans for 2015? Suffice to say we haven't been hibernating. Our plans are big and colorful (…flat and round?), and we can't wait to flesh out enough of the details to share with you all. Rest assured, there are things to come.

Take care! X

It's here now, it's in your hands

Yesterday was absolute. Friends and families, such energy, such love… Wow. Trying to take it all in now, but that'll take more than just a few hours. Thank you all so much! You've made us feel downright special.

As this marks the official release of our album, it's up for streaming in full on Bandcamp now. The product of two years of preparation, of blood and fears and tears, but above all: a hell of a lot of hard work.

It's here now, and it's in your hands. Please be gentle.

Again, thank you all so, so much.
